The Labyrinth: A Tool of Spiritual Growth
The spiral shape of the labyrinth has appeared during many ages and in varied cultures all over the world. The labyrinth is not a maze; a person does not get lost within its curving shapes. The walker enters one way and is lead out the same way. The path is a walk of discovery!
We can look at the labyrinth as having three movements:
1. On the way in to the center, the walker releases whatever might block the Spirit from speaking to the heart. As she/he walks the curving path, now moving close to the center, now walking closer to the periphery, there is an opportunity to relax and let go.
2. At the center, the word we cherish is receive. The walker stands in the center, a round and containing space, and open the mind and heart to whatever the Spirit, Life, or their own inner Self wishes to say.
3. On the way out from the center, we hold the word, reflect. The walker reflects on what messages she/he received in the center, or at any time during the walk.
The person who enters the labyrinth can hold an intention, ask for an answer to prayer, or simply be open to what happens. Journaling, drawing, or painting after the walk can help more answers arise.
Or more questions— which is very good also!
Lyn has a full labyrinth at her home and it is available for the use of individuals and groups.
